About Me
My name is Jordan! I've been photographing all sorts of insects, arachnids and bugs in general for about 7 years! It all started for me when I was in middle school. I had just gotten my first phone and I decided to start taking pictures of random things in my area. My main focus at the time was just making aesthetically pleasing photos, no matter what they were of. One of my first ever pictures I took on my phone was of a Monarch Butterfly that me and my sister managed to catch. Its colors and size were so beautiful and elegant to me that it made me want to see what other bugs looked like up close. It worked as not only a way to learn more about these insects, but also as an extra challenge to me as a photographer to try and take pictures of such small subjects. I suffer from extremely shaky hands so this would teach me how to work with that issue in my photography.
From then on out, I was obsessed and I started taking more and more pictures of insects that I found. Bees, Dragonflies, Moths, etc. My passion for photographing bugs definitely grew more as I moved from New York to Florida, where I was able to find more insects than ever before. The more tropical climate of Florida created a whole new area for me to explore and allowed me to find tons of new insects I never would have been able to find in the concrete jungles of New York City. Even after moving to Orlando, another city similar, the tropical climate has still made it easy for me to take pictures of these extraordinary creatures!
Taking part in this hobby has made me so much more interested in insects, outside of just taking photos of them. Through this, I've researched countless bugs, learning their behaviors, where to find them, how they live and all sorts of other information about these creatures that most people wouldn't really think about. I found out how different bugs had different meanings for all kinds of religions, cultures and locations; some good, some bad. It even became an influence for a lot of my writing as I'm currently working on a novel that uses a lot of bug symbolism. This blog is also a good example of how much bugs have affected my writing.
My dream in life is to become a writer and I hope to create stories that I enjoy writing, incorporating what I've learned from my life into what I make. I want to bring this passion for bugs with me on this journey and use them as an outlet to enhance my writing (like a caterpillar to a moth). If I've learned anything from photographing bugs, it's that even the smallest things in the world can have millions of meanings, and that's what I want my writing to be. I hope that my works, even this blog itself, are able to mean something to my readers just as it means something to me. So if you're reading this, thank you for stopping by my bug blog, and I hope you stick around with me on my writing metamorphosis.
